We began meeting for the book club every Tuesday in the beginning of March. Hood Feminism by Mikki Kendall brings topics to the table that society tends to shy away from. This book correlates with our mission to smash the patriarchy. We were eager to have a book club to use it as a platform for other young women to use and spread their voice. We discussed topics from the fetishization of being fierce to how things are so deep rooted and normalized in society.
"After attending the books club meetings, I always leave with a sense of relief as many of us are able to connect because we share similar experiences. Not only do we talk about things related to feminism and the book on a surface level, but we also talk about things on a personal level. In our discussions, we learned so much things but we also revisit the topic we think we know much about, but in reality we are unaware of how much we are actually affected by feminist ideals in society as a whole. Connecting with the book is one thing, but being able to work against the prejudice that is mentioned in the book is another, and that is what we do.
